The story of Jedi Fallen Order takes place 5 years after Order 66 was executed by Emperor Palpatine. The story begins with a Jedi Padawan called Cal Kestis who works on a scrap yard on the planet Bracca, scrapping from old ships from the clone wars.
During this time, all Jedi and Padawan are in hiding, as any Jedi found would be executed or used by the Dark Side. Cals true identity as a Padawan is revealed when he tries to save his friend Prauf, The Empire is alerted and they begin to hunt him down. The Second Sistser and The Ninth Sister are inquisitors trained by Darth Vader, they were sent to find Cal Kestis and bring him to The Empire, in the process The Second Sister kills Cals long time friend Prauf.
As Cal is trying to escape from the sisters, he gets saved by Cere Junda and Greez Dritus. Cere is a Jedi and knew Jaro Tapal, Cals old master, so he trusts them straight away.
Cals new companions reveal they are trying to rebuild the Jedi Order and have been trying to open an ancient vault on planet Bogano. Cere and Greez hope that Cal will be the one to open it. As Cal makes his way to the vault he comes across a little droid called BD-1, who becomes Cals companion. BD-1 projects a message to Cal from Cere’s old Jedi master, Eno Cordova. Eno tells Cal the history of the Vault, and that he hid a Jedi Holocron (Jedi artefact to store teachings and information of the Jedi Order) that contained a list of Force Sensitive children. Cal believed if he found this list then he could find and protect the children and rebuild the Jedi Order. The only way to get the list is by following a path and some tests set by Eno.
They travel to Planet Kashyyyk as they believe the Wookuee chieftain Tarfful might have some information to help complete the tests. Cal is unable to find him, so they return to Zeffo where he’s confronted by The Second Sistser. She reveals she was Ceres old Padawan and that Cere betrayed her location to The Empire while she was being tortured, and that he shouldn’t trust her.
Cal is then knocked out and captured by a Bounty Hunter. He is taken to an arena and is forced to fight for Crime Lord Sorc Tormo. Cere and Greez come to rescue him and they have been told by Tarfful to look for answers at the top of the Origin Tree on Kashyyyk. At the top of the tree there is another message from Eno telling him he will find the list on Planet Dathomir. As he’s about to leave, he’s attacked by the Ninth Sister, who he defeats and then makes his way to Dathomir.
As they land on Dathomir, Cal is attacked by Nightsister Merrin, as she blames the Jedi for the massacre of her people after Order 66. Cal then has a flashback to when his master sacrificed himself for Cal during Order 66, his masters spirit appears and attacks him, then his lightsaber is destroyed.
Cal meets another former Jedi Taron Malicos, who offers to teach Cal to handle the power of the Dark Side. Cal refuses and has to flee Dathomir as Merrin attacks him. Cere then admits that she briefly turned to the Dark Side which is the reason for her cutting herself off from the force.
Then they travel to Ilum so Cal can find a Kyber Crystal and build a new lightsaber. He returns to Dathomir and has to defeat his old Masters spirit again. He defeats him and then Malicos tries to tempt him to the dark side again, then Merrin helps Cal defeat him. Merrin then joins Cal on his journey.
They return to Bogano and Cal unlocks the vault and finds the Holocron list. The Second Sister steals the list and escapes. Cere grants Cal the rank of being a Jedi Knight and they gp to Nur, where the Inquisitor headquarters is.
They arrive there and then Darth Vader kills the Second Sister as she’s failed. Cal and Cere escape from Darth Vader and take the Holocron. Cal destroys the Holocron because he realises it puts the force sesntive children in more danger.
The game ends and the Story is left open ended, nothing has been written about Cal since then.
